Engine is out and on the bench.
Bit alarming is the sloppy fit of the "star" section engine mount rubber inserts.
I can't see replacements for sale so was wondering if there is an approved refurb method?
Should they be an interference fit in the casing holes?
Ta.

Don't have a 400 myself so can't comment on fit etc., but if they are sloppy I suppose you could always try and swell them a bit by soaking them in oil, particularly if is an engine oil with a 'Seal Swell' additive.

Be warned that this advice is worth exactly what you paid it for though, and use it at your own peril.

Aah, thanks. I was searching P_G_M this morning but failed to spot it.
PS, why does this forum seem to have a problem with P_G_M? Are they dodgy in some way?

Jeezzz...... you guys must have BIG bank accounts! Measure the bushes with a vernier / mic and source an appropriate bush from an industrial bush supplier example:

http://www.antivibrationmethodsrubber.co.uk/html/torsion_bush.html#BB

There are heaps of them; old hands will generically call these "Silent-Blocks" but most are made in India today. However a careful search should locate a local quality supplier; maybe BSL or some other industrial bearing / belt supplier.

Good luck!

Looks like what? Your link does not work. Better still got sone dimensions or a drawing? However, armed with that data these should not be hard to source, I got so many hits when I googled "Silent-Block" and "Rubber Bushes" it was scary.
It would be unlikely (however NOT impossible ) for Yamaha to have commissioned a "Special" but even so, if the demand is there get some made! A kit for £45 seems a bit steep to me!

Happy hunting!

I'll beg to differ on that.
They're such relatively cheap items to make that it would have been a no-brainer for Yamaha to make them as a specific part. So cheap that even Johnny at *** has commissioned a tool to re-manufacture them (albeit in India), and he's not known for wasting pennies!

I could make a mould for that complete set in our toolroom for about £5K, or get the mould made in China for about £1200-£1400.

Origonals are kinda star shaped. I thought HVC here in the US hade some reproductions made, but I can no longer find them on there web site. I'll call them as I could also use some new ones.

They are still listed on HVC and their part number is the same as Jonnys so at a guess i would say they come from Jonny, and they are $135.99 a set HVC engine bushes
