I have in the past ran a 4 stroke on this wonderfull fuel and still do run one on it. However I have never ran a 2 stroke on it and could do with a few pointers on it. Done all the jetting stuff with 4 strokes run it rich 12 to 1 comp and above etc etc. So ignition timing etc and jetting compression hints tips would be handy. Cant find any info in tuning for speed or anywhere else for 2 stroke info.

i did run alsorts on methanol,as a mate where i worked for a while,took samples every day,only run on 7% but made a 1lt mini metro go 115mph,we rekoned this was safe,as anymore than this blew the engine up.

Methanol needs treating with respect. It is HIGHLY toxic avoid if you can.

I allways use all fuels with repect but to me methanol is worth it for the power boost it gives you. I am running a Rudge on 70% methanol, 25% 100 ron and 5% acetone at 13 to 1 comp. Had to go up 270% on the main jet in the end. The guidelines in Tuning for Speed for this mix is plus at least 200% on main jet size as a starter for 10. I know people have used methanol in 2 strokes in the past but cant find anyone who's brain I can pick for a ball park figure to start with.

amal carbs, good choice,
alcohol needles 2c2 main jet start at 740 and come down from there needle jet 120 or 116 <i think 116 will do it> slide cutaway 3 or 3.5 timing , if the gt has a stroke of 54 mm set at 2mm if you have sh*tty pipe effects , if you have modern pipes run 1.8mm. compression, 13 to 1 , you need 50% to 60% squish area ratio. with methonol you want to keep it slightly rich for best power. and dont forget to hang on when you get it dialled in. cheers slider |

Thanks for the info slider. Prety much what I was guessing so its nice to see someone else thinks along similar lines ! Got most of the Amal stuff including what you suggest.
So if it goes ok with the GT it gives me a good start point for the 500/4 which I think I will have to hang on to if it ever runs right
I will keep you posted and I wonder how many GT pistons I get through eh. Also got a Bantam racer I want to try on it but thats another project. Cheers
